Trying something new....
Have you ever seen this meme:
And on that fun note, I have decided to try something new, Resin!
Okay, so the start up costs are steep and then all the things you throw out because they suck, that definitely doesn't help either LOL. I have to say though, when it turns out right, oh man, that feeling is amazing!
This is what I have done so far, as well as started a few projects with the girls that they have taken home.
I really enjoy it, but man is it easy to screw up! I mean take this Choose Joy jewelry tray! I love love love it, well I did until I put that gorgeous copper bottom layer on. Now it looks like someone puked in my jewelry tray!
The learning curve is steep, you have to work in layers and think of your final concept at the beginning. So first I laid down a clear coat and added the flowers and the choose joy. I added a tiny bit of diamond sparkle and a dash of yellow mica pigment. SO CUTE!!! After it had set, I was trying to get a look at it and I accidently unsealed the mold. Dang it now I have to pull it out and either leave it with a thin bottom and mostly clear or "dome" a bottom layer. I hemmed and hawwed over what to do with the bottom. Should i do white? Yellow? no that would make the "choose joy" disappear! what about black? nah not the right vibe!
Then I added the gorgeous copper sparkle - the same copper from the earrings in the first picture. I had mixed too much of the copper and it should go nicely with the autumnal yellowy orange and the white right??
So now I have waited patiently for almost 3 days to unmold the tray and see how it looks and NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.....it looks like someone threw up!
SIGH what a waste of perfectly good resources! I bet you think I am being to critical....but no really look at it!
I have really enjoyed the process of filling in the necklace charms, probably because you can fill them from the bottom up and see how the layers are working. The triangle one with the tiny allium is probably my favourite and I have worn it a couple of times.
I also really love the way these earrings turned out, its hard to tell in the picture but the purple ones are so stunning!
This piece here with the daisy, was one of the first pieces I made, and I think it gave me too much confidence in how "easy" this was to do LOL
I am waiting on some new resin to come and then I am going to try a couple of different techniques, so i will let you know how it goes!
Have a great day, and don't forget to look around and find the beauty in the everyday!
