Hello lovely readers!
As many of you know, I was recently at Girl Guide camp for a week. Part of being a leader is making sure we execute the theme, without breaking the bank.
The camp theme was literary and my site was Harry Potter themed. I needed to zhush up my site without spending a ton of money, so instead i spent a lot of time LOL.
Here are a few pictures of the final products.

One of the pieces I am most happy with is the Wand and the Marauders Map! I printed and put together the map and then distressed it so that it would look old.

| My wand and permit |

| Close up of the end of my wand |

| The Marauders Map with a few of the Daily Prophets I printed and distressed |
 |

| Map unfolded..there is a secret trail written on the map in UV ink as part of our escape room! |
I also printed out and distressed a number of posters, as well as created a portal to the Ministry of Magic and hid a Moaning Myrtle in the girl's shower.

| Portal to the Ministry of Magic |
 |
| Quibblers that are readable and 6 pages long as well as Magic textbooks |
We used these props to run a Harry Potter themed Escape room which I found but am not going to bother posting because the pages didn't match the Canadian versions of the books rendering most of the clues useless! Luckily I had read the instructions well and was able to give the kids clues...here are a few pics of the additional items we set up for the escape room.
 |
| Follow the spider's puzzle, lead them to a bag of Bertie Botts beans that they had to count to find the lock combination but they also had to note the height of the beans in the cups or they would not have the numbers in the right order! |
 |
| Potions class, they had to follow a poem and mix the right potion to figure out which spell they needed to move on, it was a trick of course....you mixed a potion thinking you would get green but it was magic so the blue and yellow mixtures made a pink potion!! It was pretty fun. |
The girls loved the theme and we had lots of compliments on the decorations so I will take that as a success! I had never tea-stained documents before and had only done a little distressing but I think it turned out way better than I could have imagined.
The girls made their own wands and permits to take home and one morning for flags they all took little battery operated tea lights and their wands. When the director called to see if Hogwarts had arrived they all held up their lights, waved their wands, yelled LUMOS and turned on the little tea lights! It was a sight to see.
The camp is done for another year, but brownies start up soon. Better start wrapping my mind around that now!
