Getting Creative in the Kitchen!!

Sorry it took me so long to write this post,  Denise and I got creative in the kitchen on Saturday but then I decided to get crazy on the stairs!!   I took a big tumble down them and now I am as colourful as my most recent set of cards!!

Denise has gone back to work and needed some help making her day a bit easier so we decided to do a Big Cook so she would have some dinners to throw in the crock pot instead of having to make dinner after a long day at work!

First step is the shopping:

Dry groceries

Pounds and Pounds of meat and cheese!
And then comes the prep - I would have taken pictures but about 45 minutes into the 9 hour process I bit it on the stairs and could barely think of my name let alone pictures of us chopping the endless pile of veggies!  Think 50 some potatoes, 30 some onions and 16 pounds of chicken breasts just to start!

one you have all the items prepped (which you should really do before hand BTW) you start putting it all into bags!

In the end we had 17 main dishes (each feeds at least 4 servings) and 14 side dishes EACH!

We made Hamburger Soup, Potato and Cheese Soup, Cheesy Chicken Casserole, Bombay Chicken, Chicken Stew Provencale, Pot Roast, Beefy Rice, Black Bean Chili, Turkey Meatballs in Itallian Sauce, Garlic bread, garlic knots, brown rice, carrots with sage and Cheesy Mashed Potatos!   We also both ended up with grated cheese and cut onions and two pounds of ground beef!

we picked our own recipes, then recorded all of the ingredients, made the shopping list and then went about doing it in the most logical manner we could think of.   It takes some planning and if you like you can try doing a mini cook by signing up at once a month cooking here.  You can choose a multitude of mini menu's and she will provide you with the shopping list and the list of what to do first in a step by step list!   Its really quite great and worth the $10 a month if you are going to do this often.   They also do full blown plans as well and since its in excel (if I remember correctly) you can say how many servings you want and then it alters the recipe based on that calculation.

Let me know if you try a big cook!  Hope you had a great creative weekend!
