Another type of creativity - a very personal type!

I love to read as you can tell from my reading challenge!   I am already 6 books ahead of my goal!!

You may not understand this post if you are not a reader, but here it goes anyway.  I want to tell you about a different type of creativity, being inside my imagination!

Today on the ride into work (one of my fave moments with lots of free time to read) I was finishing up my 44th book this year.   It was the Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare.    This book was the third in a trilogy called the Infernal Instruments; a sort of prequel if you will to The Mortal Instruments series.

I used to read a lot of non-fiction and true crime; then I went to work at the courthouse and all I did was deal with real crime.   I switched my focus over to young adult, dystopic society and supernatural stuff.

Reading has always been a place where I can get lost.    I have always had an active imagination and when I read, I am transported somewhere else.    I can get lost in a world that is totally immersive and when I am reading I really feel as if I am there.   I can see the rooms, smell the smells, feel the emotion.   I don't know if it is like this for you, but man I hope so!   Its a beautiful thing.

This could be why books into movies never really goes that well for me.   My imagination never seems to match up to what gets translated on screen.   I digress!

Back to today, once again I sat on the skytrain holding my book (well actually my tablet) with tears streaming down my face.   The main character in my book was saying goodbye to the love of her life and he was also saying goodbye to his brother (actually his parabatai but unless you have read they series you have no idea what I am talking about) and I wondered for just the briefest of moments if anyone noticed that I was once again sitting on the train crying.   I doubt they were.

sometimes I wonder if I am the only one picks up a book and becomes so lost that when the book ends you actually mourn the loss of the character/series/world.    There have been times when I have to let a few days pass before I can start something new!  Then I see these posts on facebook:

These people get me!

Over this challenge I have read several books that have brought me to great tears or sobbing (in one case) on the train.   I will share them here with you if you want to read some beautiful books!

This book is amazing about a girl who commits suicide and leaves tapes outlining the thirteen reasons why she ended her life.

This book is about a girl who has cancer and meets a boy who also has cancer.....if you can't see what is going to happen you are crazy.   Although I have to say it doesn't go down like I thought it would!

This book was so beautiful and left me literally sobbing at one point!   the main character in this book has been in an accident and is in a coma.   She has to choose if she stays or if she goes.

Anyways I have gone off on a tangent again.  I could recommend books all day but this post was really about the act of being lost in a book.   If you want any recommendations for books to get lost in and you like young adult or books about the supernatural (vampires, magic, etc) or Dystopic society then click on my profile at good reads (you can click on the "Tara" on the widget at the top of this post) and check out some of my recommendations.

what I wanted to try and do was explain my use of my imagination and I am not sure I did it very well!   For me when reading a book (or even when I watch a movie) I am totally absorbed by the story.    I give over my whole person to the act of being in the moment and living the story.   It is the most liberating form of creativity and I hope that it makes me just a tiny bit better of a person.   I build entire worlds full of dimension and colour and sound and I can see what I read in there.   I have on occasion been so drawn into a story that I have gone to bed to just read a few pages before sleeping and instead welcomed the dawn as I finish out the book.

I hope you enjoy this little slice of my mind and I hope that you get even a measure of the joy I get when I read a great book!

Have a fantastic day my friends!
