Film Review - Gravity
This time I went to see Gravity with Sandra Bullock and George Clooney (IMDB write up in case you want to check out what it is about). It opens tomorrow and you should go!
If you don't want spoilers then know this:
it was amazing! go see it....now go away!
The movie opens with silence....of course it does because you are in space! It stays silent for some time as we look over the beautiful blue marble we call earth and it is really spectacular.
This movie was over in a heartbeat...a long agonizing tense, heart beat. I had no idea that I had just spent 90 minutes on the literal edge of my seat. This story was so incredibly immersive and you got the feeling that you were stuck just like she was. I was incredibly tense through out this entire movie as I feared for her safety and struggled with her to figure out a way to get home.
Everything goes wrong about 5 minutes into this movie - literally they all die! All but Ryan and we are left alone with a scared and desperate Sandra Bullock waiting for her demise at every turn. There are obvious moments where you must suspend your sense of reality but not in an awful way.
The cinematography was beautiful and the use of 3D was spot on. I am not ashamed to admit that at one point in the film I actually jumped to the side and tried to brush the debris from my hair. Director Alfonso CuarĂ³n, does not over use the effects and the effects that he uses are phenomenal. His intentional use of silence is unnerving and adds to the suspense! The camera work when she is spinning in space unable to stop or orient herself is breathtaking and unnerving without leaving you feeling queasy.
I am not going to tell you how it ends, I want you to go ride the ride! I hope you love it as much as I do.
Thanks,
Tara
